I get asked to make some very unusual
subjects in
stained glass! Here is a mythological stained glass
that I made recently showing Poseidon, the ruler of the oceans, and a
mermaid bearing a treasure of gold coins.
It was mounted
above the master bedroom door (see detail photo below) in the home of a
single man. The main photo, above, was taken prior to installation, and
I shot the photo in front of a honeycomb shade in order to get the
colors to come out fairly well.
This very detailed artwork is only 31 inches
wide
and 16 inches high. The intricacy of the design required that I use
copper-foil to construct this artwork (rather than lead came). As with
almost all of my creations, the leadlines have been darkened with a
black patina. The overlays on her face and his hands were made of
solder-covered lead and soldered or glued to the artwork.
