In
2012, I was contacted by a man in California who wanted more privacy
surrounding his second-story balcony hot tub. The low wall that served
as the railing for the balcony was not tall enough to provide adequate
privacy for hot tubbing, so he wanted to install an extension to the
wall, and he was
wondering if I could depict his love of motorsports in stained glass. I
assured him I could do just about any subject in stained glass, so he
sent me photos of the "toys" he owned, and I worked them into a
cohesive design with the background flowing from the mountains to the
dunes to the beach to the ocean.
Unfortunately,
I forgot to photograph the panels before they were shipped off to
California. If I had done so, the photos you see here would be much
better. In the end, there was not enough room for him to shoot photos
from the front of the artwork (that is, up on the balcony) so he had to
take these photos from 40 feet away and 15 feet above the installation.
Hence these photos are skewed (not truly rectangular) and a bit fuzzy.
Still,
it's such an unusual use of stained glass that I wanted to add this
motorsports stained glass artwork to my web site. The first photo is
the whole artwork as seen from the pool below.
These
next photos show the individual panels, from left to right or from
mountains to ocean, although much of the detail cannot be seen.
