In late 2020, I was commissioned
to create a Saint Christopher stained glass artwork by a man in the
midwest. This is the kind of project that I love to do because his
first contact email stated that he desired an artwork that would show
off the level of my skills. I submitted several versions of the design
you see here, and he picked this one.
This panel was hard to do because of the intricacy of the design for
such a small stained glass artwork; the size of the stained glass
(before framing) is only 17" wide and 27" tall. I was thinking I would
have to copper foil this artwork, but as I got closer to the
construction phase, I decided that I was probably capable of
constructing this with tiny lead came. That turned out to be a good
choice, and this artwork is leaded with 1/8" lead came throughout.
This is a fairly good photo; it shows almost all of the colors
correctly. The only thing that does not show up well is the wispiness
in the glasses I used in the clouds; here they all look like solid
colors when in fact the glasses all have a wispy character.
