In the fall or 2023, I was
commissioned to make stained glass for a residential front door. The
homeowners studied the lites (glass openings) in lots of doors and
eventually decided on this door with three tall lites in it. I came up
with the of a cityscape stained glass design, and they loved it from
the moment I first showed them a drawing. We decided to use lots of bright colors.
The windows and doors are pieces of lead, covered with solder and
patina-ed to look dark like all of the lead and solder. They are
soldered in place where they touch other metal parts and glued in place
where they do not touch any metal parts.
It took quite a while to get
the door delivered, but once that was done I was able to measure the
lites and start on making the stained glass. It also took a long time
to get the door hung and painted, but as soon as that was completed I
put the stained glass panels in place. The final results were well
worth the wait.
