This ner tamid, or eternal light, is a
stained glass panel that was commissioned by B'nai Havurah, a
reconstructionist synagogue in Denver Colorado. As with many growing
congregations, this synagogue will start holding it's
largest events in a church building that they will rent when
necessary. When they hold events here, they will utilize this moveable ark. This eternal light stained glass is shown here
mounted in the wood frame that will sit atop the ark. It is illuminated
with LEDs.
Here is the finished ark. The woodwork was done by Gerdoo
Desgins LLC. The
folding doors are filled with an artwork printed on silk that was
created by a member of the congregation and printed in England. The
stained glass was designed to complement the silk artwork. The stained
glass
panel was constructed with 5/32" lead came. The "tree" on the stained
glass is an
overlay made of zinc and covered with solder so that it would patina
the same dark color as the lead came used in the panel.
Everyone was thrilled with the collaborative outcome of this project.
